Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which product is suitable for my room size?
- It’s important you get the right size AC for the cooling space. If it’s too small it will need to work harder to cool the room and that will cause unnecessary wear and tear on the unit. A unit that’s too big might cause fluctuations in temperature or become noisy. For help specifying the right AC for your needs, please call 800TAQEEF.
How do I know the installer I’m using is licenced and doing the installation as per the manufacturer’s manual?
- Taqeef’s installation team are professionally trained and qualified to install General and Midea units as per the manufacturer’s guidelines. There are other reputable third party installers in the local market but Taqeef is not able to verify their credentials. Where possible, we would recommend customers use our own installation team.
What maintenance is required from me for my new AC?
- A quick clean and clear once a month will help keep your AC running smoothly. Check your outdoor unit for debris, sand and dirt, which can sometimes cause blockages. It’s also important to clean indoor grills and filters every month to maintain the best cooling and air quality.
- Once a year, it’s advisable to have a licensed professional perform a full inspection on your air conditioning units. This will involve cleaning and flushing the condenser coils, draining the pan and drainage system, vacuuming the blower compartments, and checking the refrigerant and mechanical parts.
- It’s also worth asking them to check the ductwork, especially if your cooling bills have been higher than normal. Up to 30 to 40 percent of energy can escape through leaky or uninsulated ducts.
- Taqeef offers its own Preventative Maintenance Programme – please call 800TAQEEF for further details.
How do I read the Energy Label on the unit?
- The higher the star rating, the more efficient the product is. Our energy stickers comply with government standards, so you know what you’re buying is 100% legitimate.
How should I set my AC to reduce my electricity usage?
- Raising the thermostat by a single degree could reduce your cooling costs by 3-5%. Try to keep it set at 24 degrees if you can or consider making the upgrade to a programmable thermostat. By automatically adjusting temperatures when you’re asleep or away from home, the device can pay for itself in a few short years. Check out our Nest Learning Thermostat.
Can I just replace an existing unit with a new one of the same size?
- Your requirements, and the available technology may have changed over time, so it might be worth speaking to one of our advisors before you purchase online.
